Been scrubbed? Say NO to plagiarism !

Hey FOlks,

It's been quite some time since I could drop in for a post, but here is something that needs very very important redressing! Plagiarism !

Plagiarism is and has been for quite some time, one of the hottest topics of debate on the internet.

Plagiarism is a serious offense, and believe it or not, if you have plagiarized content on your web site or blog, you sure are going to regret it!

First of all, plagiarized content will drive search engine AWAY from your site. This is because search engines like Google index the internet and update their website records very often. Read about indexing over here

Therefore when Google sees another website(say yours) that has the same content on it, then it will simply not display your website in the search listings or will decrease your listings significantly.

Why does this happen?

First of all your content is plagiarized, and whether your visitors know it or the original author knows it or not, YOU and Google know it! So it's wrong (ethically) to expect your site rankings to rise from plagiarism!

Secondly, if I do a Google search, and the first five listings are different websites with the same plagiarized content, I am not going to get ANY new/different information, or relevant content from the remaining four sites. So that wastes my time, irritates me and make me search again and again in futility. And then I give up all hope, and move to Yahoo or MSN !

This doesn't serve the search engine's purpose and it will destroy its entire ranking and trust system. A good search engine will relate and link content available on the internet with the few key/search words that you type in and display the results! Only a BAD search engine will show you repeat results, whether they are from the same site or others!

So you can be sure that Google or any other search engine will never encourage plagiarism at all! lest they will be wiped out by competitors!

Sometimes, it is possible in many cases, especially when contents feature topics of hot discussion, that two different web sites have plagiarized content by mistake, as in like a co incidence! If this is the case, the search engine will blotch out one of these sites and it could well be yours!

How can you avoid this?

Well, here comes the use and purpose of this post! Checking and guarding your work from plagiarism! You can use the services of www.copyscape.com for your plagiarism checking purposes. Even if you are a copywriter, then you will not be at a great loss to use copyscape as even if you pay for their checking services, it is dirt cheap at $0.17 per checking. I found copyscape to be the best article checker on the internet, and by experience, I feel copyscape is also accepted worldwide as an authority when it come to plagiarism checking and article checkers. Another article checker that I found which was pretty good was articlechecker. you can use the services of articlechecker from www.articlechecker.com . Articlechecker is not as strong as copyscape, but it well does the trick. It offers Google links for every plagiarized bit, so you know when and where it will be blotched out and for which relevant keywords the sites pop up in the searches. This is very useful and convenient as well! However, the intensity of the searching and checking was not as great as that in www.copyscape.com . Copyscape beats articlechecker in quality, but of course the catch is that you must pay for each check. However, articlechecker is free of cost! There is no payment involved and you do not even need a URL (as in your content need not already be published- again a very handy tool when it comes to website development and content uploading)

You probably might be a bit confused as to what article checking tool you must use and whether it is worth the money or effective enough.

Do not despair, because with the experience of developing content for more than 100 websites, I have figured this out all the way! Not only you can use copyscape for free, but also for an unlimited number of times!(This is mainly for people with unpublished content) Just create a temporary blog on www.blogger.com , and paste your work on it as the first post. Copy the post url and use it as your site on copyscape.com to check the status of your work- for free!!

SEO : High Rankings on Google

Hi Folks!

Well, here we go..

This is my first technical post, or post taht is actually relevant to what this blog is about, so any criticism/hate mail/sarcasm/abuse and maybe a tiny, teeny bit of apprectiation would be absolutely welcomed :) !

Lets get down to business now..

What the HELL is SEO? Why is everybody talking about it?

And why the HELL am i blogging about it?

Well, the answers, are not simple, but i will try my best none the less.

SEo is an acronym for Search Engine Optimisation, and Search Engine Optimisation is the technique by which a company/person will help a wesite or another company to get their site ranked higher on the two of the workds biggest search engine competitors: Google and Yahoo!

Why should a site be ranked higher on search engines?

Let's imagine that someone, say Calvin, has started his blog. Let's say he's writing about motor bikes. He has finished about 15-20 posts on different motorbikes, but mostly on what his experiences were with each motor bike. Now Calvin has put up some adverts on his blog, and has also advertised his own special bike fitting, a small invention he came up with.

He does a google search for motorbikes, and cannot even find his blog. So this means, some one who ahs no idea of who he is and what his blog is about, will probably never ever land up there, and will never figure out his cool invention, will never see his advertisers messages or his own adverts, and thus Calvin will never earn money or gain exposure.

Now if Calvin decides to get some serious SEO done on his blog, then over the next few weeks, Calvin finds his blog is indexed on Google and Yahoo! , his blog now comes up in specific and even wide range searches, and thus, there is an increased probability that someone from Japan who has no idea about him will land up on his blog!!

SEO is the future of the internet's role in Marketing, advertising and Business Development.

The world is headed towards outsourcing and large scale project completion at cheap costs and short time frames. A site with a good SEO will therefore be the first choice for anyone who searches for anything on the search engines. If their site is impressive enough, they will get customers!

How does Calvin implement SEO in his blog??

Actually, there are a variety of ways in which Calvin could get his site optimised for motorbikes.

First of all, he could do a keyword search for motor bikes and see who his competitors are...
You can analyse what the others on top have done and get a basic idea of what content you need to put up.
Next, Calvin can make his page rich with pictures, but not too much, so that he may hit the image searchers as well. About three pictures of specific motorbikes can do the trick over 6-7 posts. Remember, each picture has a filename, and google's google bot includes the filename int he search as well. So if Calvin's blog has a picture of a Triumph motorbike, but Calvin hasn't even mentioned it anywhere on his blog, not even once, google will still show Calvin's blog on the results. So be smart while choosing your pictures!
Backlinking~~!!
Backlinking is one of the coolest algorithms that google has devised to rank web sites on their search engine. If Calvin manages to get some links from his friends blogs, that are popular hits on the net, or maybe froma popular myspace guy or girl (a few beers should do the trick!) , then google will value that link as authentication of the content provided on your site. There are no "robots" taht google has to do its work. Google just uses past results and tracks general searching behaviour of its users and we do all of their homework! So if a Site with a high Traffic rate recommends Calvin's blog through a link, then Calvin has managed to woo google into ranking his site higher! It's also great to get your friends who have started parallel blogs to link to you, and you will in turn link to them. This way even, if your friend/co-blogger hits it big, you have something to gain! Backlinking usually throws in some amazing results. Feel free to experiment!

In that case, what should Calvin focus on writing on??
That's the million dollar question now. The best way to figure out what exactly to write on, is to check out what the most popular searches on Google and Yahoo are at the moment. If Britney Spears just gave birth to a baby girl, then a post on a pic of a bike that has Britney modelling next to it can actually throw Calvin's blog right on top!! Be innovative, and be informed. Any current news and trends must be used and tweaked to your core subject of blogging(in this case motorbikes) and this will rock the search engines just right!
It is also essential that Calvin writes posts that are specific to a particular topic per post of his. If his entire blog is a mess of things related to motorbikes that are all confused and in bits and pieces, it will be like a jack of all trades, and instead of a steady Number 10 result on Motorbikes, he will find his blog on #5000 for all related searches, which is practically useless.
Maybe his first posts could be on choosing a good bike, the next few on the worlds best motorbikes, posts on dream motorbikes to own, current market reviews and rates on motorbikes, etc. This way things are more organised and people can easily find what they want, let alons the search engines that they use.

Anyway, i guess I've babbled off enough on SEO for now. But I will add another post on SEO after a while.
Please give me some feedback!!!! I would appreciate that!
(maybe witha few beers even, like Calvin!! hehe.. )

Cheers,
Techmechanic
