Nightlife Mumbai Bombay Nightlife

Nightlife in Mumbai

Mumbai, also known by its older name Bombay isn’t called India’s city that never sleeps for nothing. Everyone who’s anyone knows the party and night atmosphere of Mumbai-Tourists, Residents, Office goers, Taxi Drivers, and of course Bombay’s very own Bollywood heart throbs. Bombay offers a phenomenal variety and number of pubs, discotheques and bars for the wildest of party animals, and for the pickiest of drinkers.

Bombay, as a city has now accustomed itself to its vibrant party atmosphere, and its alright if one just walks into a pub or a bar and grabs a shot. The city has grown to become comfortable with alcohol.

Cafe Mondegar at Colaba Causeway offers draught beer, Imported Beer and tongue twirling fruit cocktails. The place is relaxed and the music is more of old time Rock Classics. The crowd has a majority of students, and the place is a favorite for Westerners.

The Ghetto at 30 Bhulabhai Desai Road serves beer by the pitcher with all time Rock n Roll hits jamming away at the side. The place also has pool tables where one can catch up with friends, or just play a good game of snooker. The wall graffiti provides humorous reading and is a great pass time.

The Inside Story, located inside Cafe Mondegar is truly is Mondegars “inside story” for it act as the inner sanctum, an English pub with a dark atmosphere though the clientele is mostly male, with a few bouncers thrown around.

Jazz by the Bay next to the Pizzeria, 143 Marine Drive is the place to be, since it is indeed the Official Channel V pad. A great place to head off to, after helping oneself with Pizza at the neighboring Pizzeria. Jazz festivals take place pretty often here with both Indian and foreign artists performing, and weekends are great too, with DJs spinning out the latest tracks for the dance floor.

The Tavern, Fariyas Hotel, is more of an English-style pub, complete with wooden beams, the usual English paraphernalia, and great music.

J49 at Juhu Residency Hotel is a packed discotheque. J49 is one of the hippest places in Mumbai that’s actually entirely worth checking out if one is a regular party goer. The alcohol is a blend of the best spirits available, and the cocktails and tall drinks taste just perfect. Not only that, the liquor is actually affordable and smartly priced. The place has mirrors placed all over, along with Egyptian styled statuettes; mind blowing lighting and a huge, huge dance floor. Unlike the other discothèques of Mumbai which are quite cramped, J49 has got lots of space they also have therapeutic and trance music sweeping the floor.

The 1900s at the Taj Mahal is one of the better discotheques where entry is free to guests, but otherwise it’s for members only. Often visited by the who’s who of Mumbai, this is one place nobody should miss.

Fashion Bistro at 16 Marzban Road is one of Mumbai’s latest discotheques on the nightclub scene, with mannequins displaying the latest and hottest designer wear in one room, and a bar and dance floor with ear-deafening music in another.

Bassein Fort (Basin) Vasai Fort- Mumbai

Bassein Fort (Basin) Vasai Fort- Mumbai

Bassein Fort (Basin) also recognized, as Vasai Fort is an important sea fort located in Bassein, present day Vasai. Built by Bahadur Shah, sultan of Gujarat, it was originally one of a chain of forts intended to guard the coast against the Portuguese and the pirates. Bassein, however, fell into many hands such as- the Portuguese, the Marathas and lastly the British. In the course of time Bassein became a prosperous shipbuilding centre and the famous Bassein stone was very much in demand. This fort is about 55 Kms from Mumbai. By road, it is a 77 km long journey along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Bassein can also be reached by train from Churchgate to Vasai Road and thereafter 11 kms by rickshaw from the railway station.

The fort is very big, with the main gate leading to a small courtyard, from where one can climb the ramparts to take a look around, which reveals the numerous old structures of the fort now in ruins. The Portuguese buildings in the interior of the fort are in ruins, although there are enough standing walls to give a good idea of the floor plans of these structures. They are usually adorned with carved stones, some weathered beyond recognition, others still displaying sharp chisel marks. Three chapels inside the fort are still identifiable, which have facades typical of 17th century Portuguese churches. The southernmost of these has a well-protected barrel vaulted ceiling. Several watchtowers still stand, with staircases leading up.

Bassein was well-known as a place for ship building in the 15th Century. The Portuguese settled here because they were sharp enough to recognise the importance of Bassein as a strategic place on western coast. They conquered the fort from the Sultan of Gujarat and remodeled it by building a citadel inside. The Bassein fort was made the northern capital of the Portuguese, later then over a span of 200 years they built for its aristocracy, a walled city overlooking the sea. This city contained a cathedral, 13 churches and 5 convents. Many of the buildings still stand erect, albeit without roofs. In the 18th century the fort was attacked by the Maratha army under Baji Rao Peshwa, and fell in 1739 after a three year long fight. However, it was the British who had the final ownership of the fort.

The ruins of the Portuguese fort still stand almost concealed by brushwood and palm groves. Some of the walls and churches can still be witnessed. Almost on every wall of the fort, there are trees whose roots affect the structures. The Bassein fort needs immediate attention of the authorities, to retain the last relics of this historic place.

About 10 kms to the northwest from the fort is the Nalasopara village, the capital of the Konkan region. Many Buddhist relics were found here. This place is believed to have been the birthplace of Buddha. An hour by bus travel from Bassein station are the Vajreshwari temple and the Akoli hot springs. Ganeshpuri with the Sadguru Nityanand Maharaj Samadhi Mandir, the Bhimeshwar temple and other ashrams are also easily reachable.

Transport in Mumbai

Mumbai Transport

Mumbai transport constitutes of thousands of citizens moving around the city by road, rail, air and water. These form an essential part of a massive network of transport.

The first bus in Bombay ran on July 15, 1926. Though it was received with great expectations and enthusiasm, this form of transport was yet to become available for all classes of society. For several years, it was looked upon as transport that was solely meant for the higher sections of society. The preferred mode of transport for the poorer classes was the tram. The bus fare was considerably higher than that of the tram. The bus fare would exceed the tram fare by a large margin.

Imagine how difficult it would be to transport THIS humungous crowd to wherever they want to go , and on time!

mumbai people transport crazy indians bombay travel

PS
Look at how almost all the people stare at the camera or the really hot indian woman taking the picture :) Indian mentality you could say :)

Different forms of transport in Mumbai include:

-Bus Service: The bus service provided in Mumbai is the main mode of transport. Most commuters take the public buses to and back from work. The buses have routes all over Mumbai. There is a mad rush to board the buses as they drive into the stops. People run to get on the bus. The entry to the buses is mandatory through the rear entrance. People can dismount from the bus through the front door. The buses have signboards that give details of where the bus stops and these details are displayed clearly. The bus service is of vital importance to the citizens of Mumbai.

-Railways: The Mumbai Railway system is owned by Indian Railways and is operated by Western Railways and Central Railways. With an overall length of 303 km, it claims to have the highest passenger density in the world, six million people every day. The railways are the best choice for anyone with a long commute route. These rail lines connect several parts of Mumbai. The rail service offers local trains and express trains. The local trains run through the usual routes with a stop at every station. The express trains run at higher speeds while skipping stops to reach the final destination.

-Taxis: The taxis arrived in Mumbai as a more personalized alternative to public transport. The taxis are painted black and yellow. The amount of fare is decided by the meter which measures price based on distance traversed. They are preferred by tourists and for long distance journeys through Mumbai. The cost of the taxi is slightly expensive but it provides privacy and comfort.

- Auto Rickshaws: Auto rickshaws play an imperative role of public transport in Mumbai. Auto Rickshaws are the most common mode of public transport for family outings and transport to specific parts of Mumbai. They are costlier than buses but more affordable than taxis. Most of these Auto Rickshaws are run for the public. Some Auto Rickshaws are privately owned and only transport the preset people. Some of these Auto Rickshaws are modernized and have air conditioning to keep you cool in the heat. The standard of Auto Rickshaws is improving by the day.

Elephanta Caves Elephanta Island Mumbai

elephanta caves mumbai
Elephanta Caves and Elephanta Islands

Elephanta Caves are the great tourist attraction in the vicinity of the large Mumbai metropolis. The Elephanta Island is located 10 km away from the Gateway of India at Mumbai city. These caves have rock cut temples dating back to the 5th century. The Elephanta Island can be accessed only by boat. Ferry rides are available from the Gateway of India and it takes just 15 mins to reach the Elephanta Island. It is one of the most thrilling ride as the boat cruise up and down the wavy sea making it a life time experience.

The Elephanta Island was so named by the Portuguese, after the statue of an elephant close to the landing area of the island. These rock cut temples dedicated to Shiva Mahadeva are rich in its exotic sculptural content. There are 3 entrances provided to this temple. The eastern and the western entrances denote the axis of the temple. There is a 20 pillared hall that lines the axis, and on its western end is a chamber in which a Shivalingam enshrined. Along with this image there are splendid sculptured images of Kalyanasundara, Gangadhara, Ardhanariswara and Uma Maheswara on the southern wall. Other sculptured images of Nataraja and andhakaasuravadamoorthy are to the west of the northern entrance and the images of Yogishwara and Ravanaanugrahamurthy are to its east. Motorboats pickup passengers from Appollo Bunder near the Gateway of India.
Once known as Puri - later Gharapuri - this island was the proud capital of a coastal kingdom and the great cave shrine in praise of Shiva, excavated in the sixth century, added to the ruling dynasty. Several centuries later the Portugese took control of the island. They discovered the monolithic stone elephant at the place where they landed and also named this as ilha do elephanta, island of the elephant. There was a stone horse too, a little further, which has vanished without any clue.

These rock cut temples were created by carving out rock, and creating the columns, the internal spaces and the images. The entire temple is similar to a gigantic sculpture, through whose corridors and chambers one can walk. The whole structure was created through a process of rock removal. Some of the rock surfaces are highly finished while some are unprocessed bare rock.
The cave temple, which is the pride of Elephanta caves, sprawled over an area of about 5000 square meters, is reached by hiking a flight of more than 100 steps, to the top of a hill. Inside the temple, is a large pillared hall that appears to hold up the roof of the cave.

The Cross beams complete the illusion of a ceiling. One's attention is immediately drawn to the series of stunning sculptured panels, nine in all, which are set like tableaux on the walls. Only little facts are known about the architects and sculptors, who worked on this gem of ancient architecture. Each of the panel captures the volatility of Shiva's essentially ironic nature, and the magical interplay of light and shade, only intensifies the overall effect.

The Gateway of India !

Mumbai-Gateway of India

Here's something useful about Mumbai or Bombay's most popular hang out. It's not a mall, or a discotheque. Think again, it's a monument!

Mumbai's most well-known monument, this is the starting point for most tourists who want to travel around the city. It was built as a triumphal arch to memorialize the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone.Paradoxically, when the Raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway. Today this representation of colonialism has got Indianised, drawing droves of local tourists and citizens. At the back of the arch, there are steps leading down to the water. Here, you can get into one of the bobbing little motor launches, for a short cruise through Mumbai's fabulous natural harbour.Built in the Indo-saracenic style, the Gateway of India is meant to memorialize the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, prior to the Darbar in Delhi in December 1911. The foundation was laid on March 31, 1911 between 1915 and 1919 work proceeded on reclamations at Apollo Pier for the land on which the gateway and the new sea wall would be built. The foundations were finished in 1920. The Gateway is constructed from yellow Kharodi basalt and reinforced concrete (R.C.C). The central dome is 48 feet in dia and 83 feet above ground at its highest point. The whole harbour front was realigned in order to come in line with a planned walkway which would sweep down to the centre of the town. The total cost of this structure was Rs. 21 lakhs, sponsored mainly by the Government of India. Due to lack of funds, the approach road was never built, and the Gateway now stands at an angle to the road leading up to it. The construction was finished in 1924, and the Gateway opened on December 4, 1924 by the Viceroy, Earl of Reading. The last British troops to depart India, the First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, passed through the gate in a ceremony on February 28, 1948.

The Gateway is Mumbai's most famous tourist attraction and has caused the surrounding area to flourish in support of the travel industry. In addition to the expected food vendors, hotels, and restaurants catering to serve visitors there are also boat launches to Elephanta Island and harbor cruises, a waterfront walkway with steps leading to the water, and a growing nightlife circuit close by.

To reach Gateway of India, one has to take the Western Metro line to Churchgate and take a taxi or walk about 20 minutes to the Gateway (taxi is recommended). As it is the most well-known landmark in the city nearly all taxi drivers know where it is. Bus tours to the Gateway can be arranged through the hotel.

It will take around 2 to 4 hours around the gateway. Although the monument itself may take several minutes to see, it's worth taking a cruise to Elephanta caves and or elsewhere in the harbor, strolling along the stone walkway, exploring a few streets inland to shop or eat is a great way to spend your time.

Have Fun!

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay attracts large groups of tourists with its various types of crowd pullers. These include temples, shopping, the parties, and many more. Mumbai has several tourist attractions. The architecture and religious spots are the largest attractions. Many people also come to Mumbai to enjoy the party scene. Tourists from out of India and in other parts of India reach Mumbai through air. While you travel to Mumbai you must take some precautions to ensure a good journey. These tips ensure that you enjoy every moment of your visit and also guarantee your safety.

Starting from the boarding of your airplane, always reach the airport a little early. Eat a light snack before boarding your plane to avoid hunger on the plane. Carry a book to avoid boredom. This keeps your mind free and relaxed. Don’t book tickets in the last minute. This causes unnecessary tension for all the parties involved. Carry some of your own food if necessary.

Upon reaching Mumbai, book into your room and catch some rest. Going sightseeing while you are jetlagged can really drain you. Catch up on sleep before you leave for the airport or after you have reached your destination. Avoid eating food bought from roadside vendors. The quality of food and hygiene is not very good. If you want to eat some food from roadside shops, insist that the food be made in front of you. Carry some medication for motion sickness and illnesses like diarrhea and vomiting.

If you take any medication carry additional dosages of it wherever you go. When staying at a hotel request bottles of mineral water or purified water. Carry an alarm clock with you to avoid waking up late for any tours you might embark upon. Ensure that your tour has adequate breaks. Avoid food that is complex or contains a lot of oil as it may cause an upset stomach. Eat light and travel light. Carry only the things that are necessary. Ensure that your travel service is a reliable one. When you hit the souvenir shops don’t go on an endless shopping spree. Keep yourself on a budget, stick to it and don’t buy too many items. Excessive baggage can cause several problems while you embark on your return journey. Be a good tourist and don’t litter. Try to blend in as much as possible and avoid any confusion. If possible, learn the basics of the local language to help you get around.

Always carry extra rolls of film if you want to take photographs. If you are using a digital camera, carry additional batteries. Make a checklist of all your possessions and keep track of them. Losing them can mean a lot of work trying to find them. Keep all the tips mentioned in mind while on your journey and stay safe. However, don’t forget to enjoy yourself.

Been scrubbed? Say NO to plagiarism !

Hey FOlks,

It's been quite some time since I could drop in for a post, but here is something that needs very very important redressing! Plagiarism !

Plagiarism is and has been for quite some time, one of the hottest topics of debate on the internet.

Plagiarism is a serious offense, and believe it or not, if you have plagiarized content on your web site or blog, you sure are going to regret it!

First of all, plagiarized content will drive search engine AWAY from your site. This is because search engines like Google index the internet and update their website records very often. Read about indexing over here

Therefore when Google sees another website(say yours) that has the same content on it, then it will simply not display your website in the search listings or will decrease your listings significantly.

Why does this happen?

First of all your content is plagiarized, and whether your visitors know it or the original author knows it or not, YOU and Google know it! So it's wrong (ethically) to expect your site rankings to rise from plagiarism!

Secondly, if I do a Google search, and the first five listings are different websites with the same plagiarized content, I am not going to get ANY new/different information, or relevant content from the remaining four sites. So that wastes my time, irritates me and make me search again and again in futility. And then I give up all hope, and move to Yahoo or MSN !

This doesn't serve the search engine's purpose and it will destroy its entire ranking and trust system. A good search engine will relate and link content available on the internet with the few key/search words that you type in and display the results! Only a BAD search engine will show you repeat results, whether they are from the same site or others!

So you can be sure that Google or any other search engine will never encourage plagiarism at all! lest they will be wiped out by competitors!

Sometimes, it is possible in many cases, especially when contents feature topics of hot discussion, that two different web sites have plagiarized content by mistake, as in like a co incidence! If this is the case, the search engine will blotch out one of these sites and it could well be yours!

How can you avoid this?

Well, here comes the use and purpose of this post! Checking and guarding your work from plagiarism! You can use the services of www.copyscape.com for your plagiarism checking purposes. Even if you are a copywriter, then you will not be at a great loss to use copyscape as even if you pay for their checking services, it is dirt cheap at $0.17 per checking. I found copyscape to be the best article checker on the internet, and by experience, I feel copyscape is also accepted worldwide as an authority when it come to plagiarism checking and article checkers. Another article checker that I found which was pretty good was articlechecker. you can use the services of articlechecker from www.articlechecker.com . Articlechecker is not as strong as copyscape, but it well does the trick. It offers Google links for every plagiarized bit, so you know when and where it will be blotched out and for which relevant keywords the sites pop up in the searches. This is very useful and convenient as well! However, the intensity of the searching and checking was not as great as that in www.copyscape.com . Copyscape beats articlechecker in quality, but of course the catch is that you must pay for each check. However, articlechecker is free of cost! There is no payment involved and you do not even need a URL (as in your content need not already be published- again a very handy tool when it comes to website development and content uploading)

You probably might be a bit confused as to what article checking tool you must use and whether it is worth the money or effective enough.

Do not despair, because with the experience of developing content for more than 100 websites, I have figured this out all the way! Not only you can use copyscape for free, but also for an unlimited number of times!(This is mainly for people with unpublished content) Just create a temporary blog on www.blogger.com , and paste your work on it as the first post. Copy the post url and use it as your site on copyscape.com to check the status of your work- for free!!

Education : Lets make fools of ourselves!

Now doesn't that picture speak for itself?

The first time I saw it, all that ran through my head was AC sqare equals bc square pluc AB square! Believe me folks, it took me one whole minute to figure out what the photographer was trying to convey!

Ha ha ha ha :)

If only modern education and engineering examinations were like this!

Humourists that they were, I'm sure Newton, Einstien, Feynman, Rutherford and Bohr would have agreed whole heartedly!!

Sometimes we try to be so rigid and normal(read conventional) in our thinking, that we miss out on better ideas and lose out on creativity and common sense!

All this can only be blamed on the system that teaches us nothing but how to become blind in our analysis of situations!

As Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes wrote after answering an exam question----

" All I've learnt here is to memorize this utterly useless fact long enough to pass this stupiod test question. I now intend to forget this as soon as possible, because all you have taught me is how to cynically manipulate the system. Congratulations! "

Hats off !

No wonder everybody likes that comic character!

Easy SEO: indexing your site on Google

How google helps you screw google!

Absolutely! I am not drunk, and neither are you! Google literally helps us to screw Google on the searches! Google actually lets you add your URL or Uniform Resource Locator on to their index so that anybody who makes searches that are relevant to your site and your site's content will be lead straight on to your site! So that means not only added traffic, but higher page rankings, better business, and a much better web site! This makes for much better and easier SEO!

The web site could be a blog or anything for that matter. Sub-domains are not a problem.

How does Indexing on Google Work?

The way it works is, google crawls and indexes all the new content and pages it sees every time it does. This means Google's GoogleBot actually updates it's archives of the internet every time it makes a "crawl". This is the only way Google will survive, because if they don't do this, their most relevant searches will be unanswered or will turn out absolutely irrelevant results.

So that means relevant results came for the 7-11 terror attacks on the net on 8-11 only because Google Bot crawled the web in between that time! Doesn't Google make Search Engine Optimization look so easy? Its like they offer all the tools, and if you're well informed about them , you are the SEO expert!

Will all sites added be indexed by Google?

This is a very interesting question. But according to Google, as they mention on their site, they do not add ALL URL s on their Google index. This is primarily because of robots, that are designed to spam the Google index with URL s. So Google devises its own clever mechanism to detect such spam frauds and eliminate such impostors and spammer sites. However, we can be confident that sites like your's and mine will be indexed successfully by the Google Bot without any hassles or problems at all! This is because of the usual but simple and strong word verification that Google relies upon so much to detract spammers and robots!

How fast does it take?

This depends on the Google Bots crawl timings. You can conceive the Google Bot as a man who takes his dog for a walk, on the internet. You really can't predict when he might go out for the walk He might take him out when the dog wants to pee, or when he feels like getting some fresh air himself!

But the Google Bot crawls pretty often, and crawls deep when it does so, so any minute and minuscule sties will also appear on the index within a few days of submission!

However, Google again plays safe by saying there is no specific time frame and they refuse to commit to anything!

How do i index my web site on Google?

GO to this URL.

http://www.google.com/addurl/

Enter the URL of your web site in FULL in the space provided. This includes http:?? and www for most sites.
for my blog, it would be :

http://www.techmechanic.blogspot.com

There is an option to add a few comments and keywords that describe your website or blog or whatever. This is important, I feel so at least. Google claims that they do not use this and these do not affect the search queries or results, but I prefer being safe!

Remember, you need to add the main page's URL only. The Google Bot will crawl through the sub pages of the site and index them automatically. So this makes SEO life a lot more easier!

Thats abou it for this SEO update folks. I'd advise you to keep looking out for SEO posts on my blog, so taht you can implement them and increse the rankings of your blog or increase your web stie rankings on google and yahoo and other search engines as well.

Engineering, higher education and the rest of the train...

Hi all,

Back again after quite some time huh.
Anyways, what's all the hype going on about higher studies?

Here's how it actually goes:

With a basic engineering degree, a B.Tech or a B.E , one has a fairly basic and convincing idea about the course and the subject that they learn in it. So a Mechanical Engineer , in his Bachelor course , will get a good picture about what he likes,as most fields of engineering , offered in Bachelors, are still very wide and diversified in their subjects and course structures. He will be taught subjects and lessons regarding automobiles, design, engines, heat transfer and heat flow, fluid mechanics, mechanics of solids, gas dynamics, air conditioning, refrigeration, cryogenics, alternative energy, nuclear energy, solar power, gas turbines, compressible flow, Metallurgy, manufacturing technology, machine tools, Metrology and a host of other subjects that may encapsulate Design, manufacturing and production.
He may be interested in theoretical subjects, like metallurgy, Manufacturing Technology, Machine tools, or Metal Casting and Forming. Or he may be more of an analytical person and may like subjects like compressible flow, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, gas dynamics, aerodynamics, cryogenics, thermal engineering, heat transfer, etc. But since the system is not very flexible at the grass root level, and most colleges and universities prefer that students get to see all facades of their course and gain basic knowledge in all branches of their field, a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Technology is made to learn a majority of these subjects and his choices of subjects are restricted to a smaller number.

However, once he has finished his course, he may get a clearer idea about what he might want to pursue as his career. But unfortunately, he does not know enough of his favorite subjects. Hence,in order to learn more and expand his knowledge and abilities in his area of interest, he takes up available opportunities like his bank(for a study loan) or his fathers bank(again, for a study loan)and applies to universities abroad or within the country to get a Master's degree on the subject. Thus our man is now a Master on the subject and can handle anything flung on him from a Bachelor effortlessly or with some thought. He now knows more in his specific field and can apply his knowledge in a variety of methods, and is confident of what he knows in that field. Now this man may have an invention or idea in mind , or may think that there is still a lot left unaccomplished in this field, or may still have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge in a further sub category in this field. And now, after paying off the bank, our man gets up and goes ahead to tackle the PhD, or the Doctorate course in his area of interest, which is a smaller section of his area of expertise, which in turn is a section of the field of engineering. So our man learns more and more, and once all of it is exhausted, gets ready to find out something new, and researches his own project and presents papers on his findings in international journals to prove that he has contributed to the area of super expertise. Then his work is reviewed by a committee and they decide on the fate of our man, after agitating him with questions and verbally and practically testing and verifying his knowledge, and his findings. Then they ward him a Research degree and his doctorate and our man is now one of the highest on the rung of knowledge of the ladder that constitutes his tiny field. He now finally sits down and selects which company(yes, selects!) and choose one where he will teach more bachelors and masters of engineering, and will encourage them to become like him, a researcher and academician and scholar. Thus the cycle goes on and on, and science seems to be improving only for the case of fatter salaries and pay packages and social respect and esteem. People are more interested if G.E. or Mercedes will recruit them, or if they end up working with N.A.S.A, or some other high five multinational company or organization that hits the headlines every time their CEO farts or their management takes a hike or their product fails miserably in the market, but they suddenly make a comeback with "amazing new technology"... It is pretty pathetic that nobody learns and studies for their thirst for knowledge or for self satisfaction.Alas, man has made a slut of science as well.

As my prof said, "higher studies is where you learn more and more about less and less, and finally you know everything about nothing!!!"

HOW TRUE!!

Talking to yourself- Not quite!

Hi all!

How many of you folks out there talk to yourself? Believe it or not, this may happen knowingly or unknowingly, and this usually happens when the thinking is so hard that you tend to become unconscious of your surroundings. Another fact is that many accidents and mishaps take place because of this habit!

Here's one that i did myself today. Don't know if you could actually call this self talking, but where do i put talking with inanimate objects???

Scene: I get out of rickety bus, hodge podge and five steps out on the road when-KRACK bOOOM!
(raining like crazy)
So I start running like crazy- until i realise i need cash- so there i run into my ICICI ATM . SO i enter in and this wierd habit of talknig to the spy camera in the ATM comes up.

Me: Heyyyy! looks like I've been seeing you too often these days. Do you still ahve my money?
ATM:Please enter pin..
Me: (while entering pin) Why should i enter a pin? You like getting poked??
ATM:Please enter you transaction choice...
Me: ......
ATM: enter the amount...
ME: punch punch punch in the numbers..
ATM:Please wait while we process your transaction..
ME: You are asking me to wait? It's freaking raining outside, and I must wait for a mute machine to "process the transaction"
ATM:Network error.Try again later.
Me: F*@#cking Machine.

(After one smoke and 15 minutes later)

Me:You dumb f*@#$ing machine, playing politics huh?
ATM: enter pin..
Me:you wish..(entering pin)
ATM:ENTER amount..
Me: punch punch upunch in the numbers..
ATM:please wait while we process your transaction..
Me: you better gimme my money this time. I will kill you(make a killing motion to the camera) and take all your money dammit! I will eliminate you! I will break your screen and use your buttons as scrabble pieces.
ATM:Please collect cash .
Me:THanks!gtg..bye!

People can be stupid- Even the techmechanic. But so can machines. including ICICI ATMs.

Science & Engineering: How raped our basics are..

Hi all,

There I was today, at Thermal Engineering class, and was sitting at the first bench, surprisingly paying attention to every uttered word (I desperately need better grades, and My Prof.(he's a genius, but sadly not the mad scientist types. That would have been cooler.) was just getting into the concepts of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. So there he was lecturing about what tonnage actually is and what they mean by a one tonne capacity of air conditioners.

It kinda went along like this>>>>>>>

One tonne capacity of an air conditioner would mean that the amount of energy required to convert one tonne of ice at zero dergrees to water at the same temperature.

!#$%!#%%^ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIPPPPP!#$!#%#%13

I awake immediately.."something wrong with this goddamit! "

q...3253125..@%24 ...352^&
(now that's me furiously thinking about what was wrong)

So i finally consult my buddies behind me and stop my Prof and ask him:

"Excuse me, but does the water, after melting from ice, still weighone tonne or does it weigh more or less? Shouldn't there be a difference in the weight because of the breakage in the intermolecular bond stuff? "

:) :) :) :) :) :)

(now that's me thinking I am very intelligent)

Until...

"No ! What's wrong with you today? Did you sleep enough last night? You seem to have lost it"

me thinking(with an open mouth):Huh??WTF?

Prof: "Law of conservation of mass man!"

Me: Errr...

Prof: "OK What weighs more? One kg of Steel or 1 kg of cotton"

A brief pause and me:"err they are both one kg right? It's the same"

Prof: "Yeah so what is your problem now? trouble cleared?"

Me thinking: Thank god I said it right..

Me: "Err...okay what about the weight???"

Me thinking:(Gotcha now sucker...)

Prof: "Fellow, Ice has the same weight as water even after melting. What is Weight?"

Me: "Err.."

Some Random SMart ass in class: " Mass into Acceleration Sir"

Me thinking :" Have i been saying "err " too much?

Prof : "Exactly , so even weight will be the same"

Me (now desperate): "But sir isn't tonne a unit of weight?"

Prof: "Man, tonne is a unit f mass like kilogram is"

Me:"aaaaaaaaaaah..."

Me thinking:Then why the hell did the newspaper say "the boat that capsized had cargo that weighed one tonne"....Idiots..

All Random Smart Asses In Class: HAHAHHAHAHHAHHA

........

Doesnt this make you think folks? Of course I admit I was a bit confused because of the intermolecular forces and stuff. So i didn't get it right. But I should have, atleast when he said "law of conservation of mass" ! Because the ice doesn't have any mass added to it or removed from it, so how can it's weight increase?

But this was the cake of it.

A friend of mine quickly ran out of class and asked another would-be mechanical enginner "what is heavier? one kg of Iron or one kg of Cotton?"

The intelligent soul actually said the iron would be heavier and more specifically
"why are you irritating me with such simple questions"

All I'm trying to say here is, what the hell is giong on with our basics? Where have they been raped? Why is it that I know the Law of Conservation of mass, but yet I still don't KNOW it??

Somewhere our education is being raped....WHERE????

Mr.Feynman..are you looking???

Japanese Does the trick!

Well, hi again..

However awkward this may look(for reasons un known to me) this blog post is going to help you learn the little Japanese taht i have learnt from my Japanese classes at college, which by the way is still going on. Tomoki Nakamora seems to be quite the crazy, nut job Jap when it comes to teching the subject, be it dancing in class, pronouncing "blue" as "brue", or "village" as :
1."Billage"
2."Biyatch"(yes i was shocked when i thought he said that in class !)
3."Biredge"
So here we go. I am going to list out a few basic phrases to be pronounced phonetically . I don't have Japanese scrpits yet, so you will have to do with conversatinal Japanese for now atelast!

*Hello
*Kongnichiwa (pronounced conn-nee-chee-waa)
*good morning
*Ohaiyo (oh- haie-yo!)
This is for friends and people of similar age.
*good morning (with respect)
*Ohaiyogozaimaas (oh-haie-yo! go-zaie-maas) -you will have to say this pretty quickly so that they understand that it is one word. Otherwise be prepared to look like a retard that thinks he knows Japanese.
*coffee
*Koohi (koo-hee)
*park
*Kanou(kaan-nou)
*Where is the park?
*Kanou was kan desh ka? (Kaan-nou waa kaan they-sh kaa?)
*What is your name?
*Anatono namaei wa kan desh ka?
(a-naa-ta-no naa-maie waa kaan they-sh kaa ?)
*My name is ______ .
*watashi no namaei wa ____ desh.
(waa-ta-shi-no naa-maei waa #your name here# they-sh!)

*I am ________.
(waa-ta-shi waa #your name here# they-sh.)
*right(sense of direction)
mi si
(mee- see)
*left(sense of direction)
hidari
(hee-daa-ree)
*tomorrow
*ashita
(ash-taa)
*today
*Kyou
(ky-ohh)

*Day before yesterday
*ototoi
(oh-toh-toie)
*friend
*tomogachi
(toh-moh-gah-chee)

*Nice to meet you.
*hah jee meh mosh te.
(hah -jee -meh- mosh- teh)

And just in case you see pretty Japanese girls like the one's in this pic here :P , you can always go out and confidently say
*anata wa utsukushii des!
(a-naa-taa waa oot-soo-kooshy desh!)
which would in turn mean" you are very beautiful / attractive " in Japanese!
Well, i suppose this is good enough for those who have no clue about the language for now. I do know a bit more, and can converse a teeny weeny bit fluently , but I want to save that for later.
So that's about ti for now folks.
See you later
*Bye bye
*Sayonara
(sai-yoh-na-ra ! )
Cheers!

SEO : High Rankings on Google

Hi Folks!

Well, here we go..

This is my first technical post, or post taht is actually relevant to what this blog is about, so any criticism/hate mail/sarcasm/abuse and maybe a tiny, teeny bit of apprectiation would be absolutely welcomed :) !

Lets get down to business now..

What the HELL is SEO? Why is everybody talking about it?

And why the HELL am i blogging about it?

Well, the answers, are not simple, but i will try my best none the less.

SEo is an acronym for Search Engine Optimisation, and Search Engine Optimisation is the technique by which a company/person will help a wesite or another company to get their site ranked higher on the two of the workds biggest search engine competitors: Google and Yahoo!

Why should a site be ranked higher on search engines?

Let's imagine that someone, say Calvin, has started his blog. Let's say he's writing about motor bikes. He has finished about 15-20 posts on different motorbikes, but mostly on what his experiences were with each motor bike. Now Calvin has put up some adverts on his blog, and has also advertised his own special bike fitting, a small invention he came up with.

He does a google search for motorbikes, and cannot even find his blog. So this means, some one who ahs no idea of who he is and what his blog is about, will probably never ever land up there, and will never figure out his cool invention, will never see his advertisers messages or his own adverts, and thus Calvin will never earn money or gain exposure.

Now if Calvin decides to get some serious SEO done on his blog, then over the next few weeks, Calvin finds his blog is indexed on Google and Yahoo! , his blog now comes up in specific and even wide range searches, and thus, there is an increased probability that someone from Japan who has no idea about him will land up on his blog!!

SEO is the future of the internet's role in Marketing, advertising and Business Development.

The world is headed towards outsourcing and large scale project completion at cheap costs and short time frames. A site with a good SEO will therefore be the first choice for anyone who searches for anything on the search engines. If their site is impressive enough, they will get customers!

How does Calvin implement SEO in his blog??

Actually, there are a variety of ways in which Calvin could get his site optimised for motorbikes.

First of all, he could do a keyword search for motor bikes and see who his competitors are...
You can analyse what the others on top have done and get a basic idea of what content you need to put up.
Next, Calvin can make his page rich with pictures, but not too much, so that he may hit the image searchers as well. About three pictures of specific motorbikes can do the trick over 6-7 posts. Remember, each picture has a filename, and google's google bot includes the filename int he search as well. So if Calvin's blog has a picture of a Triumph motorbike, but Calvin hasn't even mentioned it anywhere on his blog, not even once, google will still show Calvin's blog on the results. So be smart while choosing your pictures!
Backlinking~~!!
Backlinking is one of the coolest algorithms that google has devised to rank web sites on their search engine. If Calvin manages to get some links from his friends blogs, that are popular hits on the net, or maybe froma popular myspace guy or girl (a few beers should do the trick!) , then google will value that link as authentication of the content provided on your site. There are no "robots" taht google has to do its work. Google just uses past results and tracks general searching behaviour of its users and we do all of their homework! So if a Site with a high Traffic rate recommends Calvin's blog through a link, then Calvin has managed to woo google into ranking his site higher! It's also great to get your friends who have started parallel blogs to link to you, and you will in turn link to them. This way even, if your friend/co-blogger hits it big, you have something to gain! Backlinking usually throws in some amazing results. Feel free to experiment!

In that case, what should Calvin focus on writing on??
That's the million dollar question now. The best way to figure out what exactly to write on, is to check out what the most popular searches on Google and Yahoo are at the moment. If Britney Spears just gave birth to a baby girl, then a post on a pic of a bike that has Britney modelling next to it can actually throw Calvin's blog right on top!! Be innovative, and be informed. Any current news and trends must be used and tweaked to your core subject of blogging(in this case motorbikes) and this will rock the search engines just right!
It is also essential that Calvin writes posts that are specific to a particular topic per post of his. If his entire blog is a mess of things related to motorbikes that are all confused and in bits and pieces, it will be like a jack of all trades, and instead of a steady Number 10 result on Motorbikes, he will find his blog on #5000 for all related searches, which is practically useless.
Maybe his first posts could be on choosing a good bike, the next few on the worlds best motorbikes, posts on dream motorbikes to own, current market reviews and rates on motorbikes, etc. This way things are more organised and people can easily find what they want, let alons the search engines that they use.

Anyway, i guess I've babbled off enough on SEO for now. But I will add another post on SEO after a while.
Please give me some feedback!!!! I would appreciate that!
(maybe witha few beers even, like Calvin!! hehe.. )

Cheers,
Techmechanic

Let me fill everybody ouit there on what I think (and hope!) my blog is going to be about..

Let's see now..

Technical issues

(SEO, Copyscape, Online Marketing Strategies, New Softwares, Download sites, Free Mp site listings, Automobiles, Motorbikes, Science issues, Engineering Issues and the like..)

Music

(I love music- so this could include free downloads of music(where to get them), lyrics, hot new songs, music reviews, pop star reviews and gossip, tributes, ringtones, and where to get them, guitar chords and tabs(i play the guitar :) )..

Japanese / Japan

(I'm learning Japanese- so new words, funny things, ironies, general japanese trivia, scripts etc.)

Video blogging

I went for this workshop on Film making, so this blog will showcase any films or short films that i may make or act in , and also other short films or videos that i find interesting...!
These are the guys who organised the workshop, for those who may be interested...
www.ftfm.wordpress.com

Photography / Pictures

I am also a keen photographer, but without all the equipment, All i have to take pictures and photographs is my HP iPaq 512 Voice Messenger phone's 1.3 Megapixel camera, which i guess will do for me :)
I am an amatuer after all .... :D
You can count on some interesting photographs with funny quotes.. :)

Well, that's all i can think of for now atleast, lets see what comes down in posts in the future then :)

SO a good, japanese style "Sayonara" to you folks, and i bid good bye for now !
